Workin' it in my living room. Yeah today was one of those days, but some how after you dance around a bit, you then realize that what is most important is the breath in your lungs. I am thankful for I am alive.

AJ where you at?! I miss going down the street to the then beta bar in t-town just to jump around a bit with my big bro. Check dudes out. Not quite on this level but I can hold and jack my own.

Here are couple a songs from my house mix today. The first is a bit dramatic and down-tempo but it builds up well. The second, well it's Madonna. I actually liked Ray of Light. I missed that era of spiritual enlightenment and emotional experimentation in music as a whole. It was definitely a lot less robotic as compared to today.

It's funny how you can just talk people into your life (or stare at the back of someone's head until they turn around and spark a convo and eventually become a life long chum). I met up with a friend I met a few months ago at CMJ 09. She is now a licensed Entertainment Lawyer! We talked music, life, business, dreams, and a young lady by the name Kissey Asplund. I saw a Nike add online about a year ago and thought her music was jazzy-fresh, off beat but still on time. Which I tend to gravitate too.

Gravity, scientifically, is considered a weak force, but it pulled two entities together last night at I Love ViNYl in Manhattan. Sucking down my second cup of orange juice (no alcohol this time, trying to STAY healthy) and a familiar face walks in. Is that Kissey? Yup. I remember missing an opportunity to meet one of my favorite artists a while back and acquaintance of mine and awesome ATL community dj Jay Force in told me "Better to ask forgiveness than permission". So when opportunity presents, I repeat that phrase and I tackle that mugg! Luckily for me, it was well recieved. Kissey and I talked about musical preferences in different regions, but mostly how the fellas kept the crowd moving with love-anti love tracks from the yesteryears for last night's Valentine's Day. I usually stay home and sulk about how the holiday is an excuse to spend unnecessary money, but this new year of the metal tiger, I figured I change my perspective and take matters in my own hands and give instead of getting.

I had to do the two step all night when normally I'll cut a rug if one provided. Walking back to BK was brutal trying to look cute. Whomp Whomp. I much rather have worn my Nike Blazers or Air Max '95 any day (need to get a new pair).

God bless the people of Haiti. My prayers are still with you all, but all the while there are many many questions running through this noggin of mine. Here are just two.

Where's the President of Haiti?

Why is there so much bureaucracy going on with sending help to the point where one thinks there is a "2 for me 1 for you" div-ing up before disbursement of monies, water, food, DOCTORS (who are still waiting on the ok to travel to colossal calamity?

More questions are coming as now there are shots being fired in the streets due to the awakening of "innate survival instincts". What lessons did we learn from Katrina or from 2004's Great Tsunami? ...not much. Seems as though we get a big fat F in Action and a A+ with Celebrity Appearances and Special concerts.

Where's Kanye when you need him??? I would like to hear what he has to say at this point. (I lied there was a third question)

Rather than sitting watching the tube in disbelief and despair, as I did when New Orleans was more like Atlantis, I called a good friend of mine that so happened to be Haitian and tried to see how I can help (minus potentially money hungry middle-men). Apparently, UPS was (is) waving parcel fees so those that have direct access to friends and family in need can send items free of charge. However, he is still waiting on the go-ahead.

As the wait continues, more people pass away under ruble and due to lack of basic necessities, violent reactions are arising. I have been mentally thumbing through the dusty black and yellow folder lodged somewhere in the back of my head and statements from Dick Gregory pop up. Too many to hyperlink, so I will leave that assignment up to those who want to "discover the truth". Let's just say it surprisingly has less to do with faults of the earth and more with faults of those we in trust great power to.

P.S.
We still have issues to fix here in the States too. More and more people are on the streets. Oh, and riding around on a conferate flag "adorned" golf cart on Martin Luther King Day passing by twice just to make your point, is NOT a good look.

Things around the way haven't been so peaceful for many across the globe but I hope that you find a piece of happiness some where in your soul. I will continue to do the same. My condolences to the Joyner family for the lost of their son. Friend of mine back in grade school. We used to beat on the lunch table 'til our knuckles bled just for sheer entertain of our class mates from time to time. He was a drummer too. I remember talking about what drum sets we would buy and what we would play on them. Shame to see him go after battling cancer successfully. Life is confusing at times. Don't know why things happen the way they do. Always for a reason. Those reasons most of the time I don't overstand. My blessings go out to all that has lost someone within the last couple of years. Trying to keep in mind that life is short and one should do their best while here. Sometimes it's tough due to dire economic statuses, manipulative/ people, negative spirits, bad situations etc. Gotta keep treading water. I and I'll try to do it with a smile on my face.

It's good to have a group of like minded people around you to kick you in the ass every once in a while but more importantly to give you encouragement when times are tough or if the light is further down the road then what you expected.

Can anybody say A.W.O.L?

Sorry. I didn't think anyone was reading anyhow. Any who, I have managed to teleport successfully allll the way to Greensboro, NC. Yep, no mo' Tallahassee. Due to me being a devoted big sister, I opted to travel to be my little sister's keeper. (I heard the movie was a tear jerker. A little to close for me to watch.)

I've moved to the fairly large town from a country one for college. A lot of crazy emotions, really interesting (- and +) people, couple of business ventures, lots of exams, hangovers, some (cough, cough, cough...cough), and some other things scattered, covered, and peppered throughout all of that. It has been an interesting learning experience that I will vow not to forget and simultaneously vowed to keep most the story to myself...until further notice of course.

Now ExtrA post grad, I look back to see I've grown from a naive-cheery-wide-eyed sports freak to a courageous-determinated disk jockey. Who would have thought? Funny how things work out. I don't feel like Neo at the deserted train station anymore but more like Marvin the Martian trying to come up with his next invention and Goku learning to prepare for the unimaginable and watching after Gohan until he (she in this instance) can do for self.

Being a military brat, I always looked forward to my new environments and the thrill of being the new kid on the block and the ability to re-invent myself and meet different people. I guess I got to put on my friendly hat on and meet the neighbors. People here are really nice. I might bake some muffins for them like this guy.

It seems to me as if things are so backwards in the music industry that real heart felt music has no chance. Got on stage, performed our asses off but, because we had substance we got over looked. Although, there is also a lot of artists (I call us mutants. On some x-men s***) that are making moves and changing how music is listened to and marketed. There's too many of us to hold back you dumb asses! The gates are about to flood over and man is it going to make people feel better. I'm tired of dope emcees dumbing down their content just to get love on the radio (that is owned by share holders that don't look or care about us). F**K THAT S**T. Yeah I said it. Quote me.

If there is anything good to come from this period in time of recent recession I hope all things creative isn't contrived in order to make a buck.

Brazilian fish stew to be exact and it's delicious (saying delish is lame). Here's my recipe:

* 2 cups of grouper
* 1 cup of small scallops
* 1 lime
* 6 cloves of garlic, minced and divided into two portions
* 1 small onion, diced
* 1 bell pepper
* 1 jalapeno
* 1 medium carrot, sliced
* 1 large tomatoes, with their juice
* 3 cups vegetable stock
* Table spoon of cayenne pepper
* 3 tables spoons of your favorite marinade (Italian dressing is mine. I know it not Brazilian)
* 2 green scallions, thinly sliced
* 1/4 cup of chopped cilantro
* 1/4 cup of chopped parsley

ok so you got all of that down? word.

1. prepare all of your goods. blend up your tomatoes to a chunky paste (cut it up the way you like. bite size fish, thinly sliced scallion, and what not)
2. marinate fish and scallops in juice from the lime and marinade. put it on chill for an hour. the longer the better. trust me.
3. fire up your pot and coat that mug with 1/4 virgin olive oil. toss in your onions, carrots, bell pepper, jalapenos (leave the seeds in if you like your soup on cremate (hot as f***) like me). 10 min
4. add garlic
5. throw in your tomato blend and let it cook for another 10min (base paste is called refogado)
6. pour in stock and lower the heat and let that mix simmer down now. (remember that snl skit? remember when that show was funny?)
7. if the mix is not thick or saucy enough you can a 1/2 cup of tomato paste (spaghetti sauce. yes i know it's not brazilian. shh...)
8. take the chillin' seafood out the fridge and plop in the mix. stir.
9. do what you like. need more spice? add that cayenne pepper. shake in parsley and cilantro to make it look even more appealing. I added 2 cups of cooked rice in there too. just cause :)

(((Whalaaaaa!)))

Serve it up. Have a towel near by. You may start to perspire.

Merlot on deck? Got a beau? No? It don't matter. Play some Brazilian jazz and relax. Get familiar with this dude.

Today was an interesting day. I guess the mediation I had before leaving the house spawned it. I met up with Rufat on FSU's campus to link up with kids and let them know about the Everything's Lame mixtape. It's funny how things work out. I remember being enrolled at FAMU and wanting to get involved with the happenings across the tracks and now that I am an alumni, it feels as though the thought of being involved with FSU has really come into fruition. Mainly in a sense that my craft is reaching more and more people by the day.

Ran into Cody Chestnutt at my friend's Hip-hop In America class that he has been teaching for his second semester (Way to go Greg!). Cody shared some interesting words with me today before the class about keeping my fire going for my craft and my music and finding a balance. He has a gentle soul and being around him makes you want to be the best person you could possibly be. Something about Kindred Spirits that come at the right moment to let you know that you are on the right track.

On another note. CEO (Community Empowerment Organization) is an organization that I volunteer with here in Tallahassee and they are making some huge moves. Today they showed a documentary downtown at Paradigm Lounge called "Who Killed The Electric Car"? It is an interesting film that has you wondering why with all the auto industry bailouts that they didn't see this coming years ago? Especially when there was a major push to reform energy consumption and pollution emissions of cars in the first place.

I actually remember reading about this in the 3rd grade back in Ft. Benning. They used to give us a informative youth magazine that would be the equivalent of Nick News with Linda Ellerbee. Remember that show? I loved watching that every Sunday night. It made me feel informed and hella smart. So... in that magazine there was an article about the electric car and I vividly remember the whole class being so excited because we all thought that this was the next step to the future. You know, flying cars and what not. They showed the car design, briefly talked about the car's technological advances and the cool looking charge stations that they built in some California areas. Unfortunately, it never happened due to corporate GREED.

Druid Hills GC is marvelously laid out and enough room to jump on some turntables and not bust someone in the face with your elbow. I'm not endorsing, just saying.

Little 5 Points is my favorite. Always good to be in that space. Creative minds every where.

Side note: Saw a newly wed couple taking pictures out side of the little 5 points pizza and witnessed in live action, a bird landing a bomb on the left shoulder of the bride. Could not help to say, Ahh damn! It slipped out my mandible. I know that did not make such a good photo. I will admit, I did chuckle a bit. Sorry. I was walking by and so happened to see the bird totally ruin a kodak or fujifilm moment. Too perfect of timing. That's what made it funnier than not. Maybe that was a sign? The Universe saying "don't do it"! Lol. I digress.

Good to see my extended kin in ATL as well as my blood fam back in AUG. Master's traffic was not so bad this year but, still more than what your average kuntry folk are used to anyway. Shout out to Angel Cabrera for being the first Argentinian to win the Augusta Nationals.

So there are some of you that heard of a couple trilogies by the name of The Terminator and The Matrix right? Well guess what? The Wachowski Brothers and James Cameron actually got the concept for those 6+ movies from a book titled "The Third Eye" written by Sophia Stewart. A black women might I add.

Happy Pi Day to all my Dorky Comrades!

Since I'm on this nostalgic run, I thought I tell you guys that in the 5th grade we had to remember as many Pi digits as possible for extra credit. I think I got up to 30 digits. I wasn't THE math wiz but I still out performed those kids in any science subject hands down (maybe except titrations).

Here's a little ditty about what it's all about.

I have this movie by the same director that did "Requiem of A Dream"(Darren Aronofsky). It's kind of weird, dark, and trippy, but may be more relevant today (and the time of stock markets slowly making little improvement) than when I bought it. If you like interesting cinematography and the quest for the unexplained, then this movie may PIque your interest.

I remember when I was in the 4th grade we were studying the states and it's capitols, I thought to my self that Rhode Island would be the last state I would ever visit. Only because it's so small and distant from my location at the time. Well, to my surprise that happened. Had a business trip to Providence and it is everything New England, John Smith style.

My trip was pleasant despite freezing weather totally opposite of the Florida breeze but, I was happy to show of my Calvin Klein coat I seldom have a use for prior to going. Shout out to John Edwards! He was on my Charlotte flight to Providence. Didn't speak but, I gave him a nod and a smile because he had the "I hope that no one notices me on a public plane. I'd rather be on Air Force One, Damn Obama" face on. So I sat down and put my noise canceling headphones on and zoned out to J.Period & Q-tip the "Abstract" Mixtape vol 1. Which is excellently mixed and formulated. Check it out!

Speaking of 4th grade I had the biggest crush on him. I loved his voice. Still do. Anyway...still ridin' be it plane or 5 speed lancer.

So some that have read previously know that I am a recent grad of FAMU and proud to state (even prouder when the send me my diploma!) that though there are your scholars and intellectuals there is also a strain of entertainment excellence that comes from "The Hill" as well. Just to name drop a bit, Nat and brother Julian "Cannonball" Adderley, Common, Tanika Noni Rose (Dreamgirls) , to name a few.

Recently FAMU has been a part of a huge event. The 44th President's Inaugural Parade for Barack Obama and Joe Bidden. Wow you can't get any bigger than that. Though, they played in many Superbowls I talked to many of my friends who are in the "Marching 100" and they say it was nothing like it.

For those who really like America's Best Dance Crew you know that Rattlers touched or striked that realm too. Unfortunately, Strikers All stars are no longer part of the show but they did beat out a lot of the competition and I know that they will do bigger and better things from here on out. Oh, and what you see on tv is only the fraction of Strikers that are still active and dancing. There's so many of them. Shout out to my fav's Money Mike and Edwin. SPLACKKKK!

Showing Face Pt.3 "Angel Unaware"

Some of you all are wondering why it took so long for the third part to be typed. Well, most things in life are lived going forward but only understood in retrospect. This lady or should I say Angel walk into my space and told me about myself on spot. I was at the same coffee shop a few days earlier talking to my now dear friend Baba Shegun. That night I was editing songs and checking emails regarding the radio show i.e. promo, new singles so forth. Up the stairs walked this older lady of whom I saw only once before. I assumed she was homeless and needed a warm place to stay so the 24 coffee house provided that for her.

It was about 20 minutes that passed by before my spirit couldn't help itself but to ask the lady if she wanted something to eat or drink. She replied "You talking to me is far better than any meal or beverage." I went over to carry a conversation about whatever she felt like talking about. She started of talking about freedom and how it's nothing like it. She explained how she used to care for other elderly people here in North Florida and how she was expected to do everything asked for those she was monitoring. From her tone and lack of eye contact I can tell it wasn't a pleasant experience. It seemed as if they had her in a choke hold the whole time.

She stated that she cherishes the fact that she can come and go as she pleases with out having to check in with someone or be on call. She also talked about having a special talent with being a seamstress. "Everybody needs a little sewing in their life." And she's right both literally and metaphorically. However, she mentioned how those she helped initially took advantage of her talent and kindness and tried to milk her dry for whatever project that they wanted her to work on. (HMMMMMMMMM, sounds familiar). "Sometimes people get jealous of the God given talent you have and try their best to destroy it or run you down". I'm thinking to myself wow she's telling me about me, indirectly.

So the conversation that we had about her life ended up being instructions for how to avoid what she went through. Whatever she said had something to do with what I am doing creatively. The whole sewing thing, I related it to djing and how people are seeing me as a threat and giving their best shot at sweeping my feet from under me in order to stay on top. Honestly, I'm not that concern with "Taking Over", I'd rather build something up. I just want to do me and have fun doing it (and pay off students loan too). I don't need to be in the spotlight. I just want to inspire other young girls to pick up turntables than to do something or be apart of something destructive.

Some of you are reading this and wondering "How does she know that this is divine intervention"? Well I don't know, but when I told her my first name she wrote it out phonetically in order to get it down. My eyes started to swell up when I saw that her handwriting looked identical to my mother's whom of which is hard for me to forge. Also she had a picture on her notebook of three women pouring libation into a large vase that had the Ankh symbol on it. Ankh is the Ancient Kemetic symbol for "life". That so happened to be the topic of our discussion whether it was about her our my story. Mind you that the girl on the right and the left look too similiar to my good friends J and S (privacy mayne). The girl in the middle reminds me of me cause I often wear a hat or wrap on a daily basis. On the inside was a picture of the wings of Ma'at on the top of each page which symbolizes the concept of truth and balance. Makes you say hmm again don't it.

I gave her some of my background from childhood to the present trying to give her a better feel for who I was as an individual. Though I think she already knew because when I was explaining something she finished my sentences and then made comments about how she thought I may have felt at that time. Which proved to be true. Believe what you want. I know what's up.

After our hours long briefing she asked if she could pray for me. I never turn down prayer so we proceeded. It was fairly long but MUCH needed, but what got me caught up was when she asked that God help me to use my talents to affect the world. Most importantly she prayed that I will have a profession that will allow me to be and event planner and she also mentioned me putting together a choir. Lol, I don't know about a choir, but I do work with a mass choir size group of MC's that I work with.

After a short stint of tears we continued to talk about everything life until the sun came up. I didn't realize that much time passed by, but I guess when you're in the presence of something great time doesn't exist. So thank you Miss Sally for showing up in my life and I pray that I do as well as planned and expected of myself and my family.

Sowing Face Pt.2 "Footsteps"

Ok, so the next stop on this journey leads me to a local elder who so happens to be a fan of mine (or more so my respcet for elders and my conscious mind). I met him on several ocasions before but it was never a time for us to really connect. Except this one time my big brother (from another mother) was recording djemebe drums for Kehinde's album and Baba ____ came through. "You're voice sounds familiar. There was a Sunday Night were I was listening to the radio and a youngn' was playing Sun-Ra ad I thought to myself, what you know about Sun-Ra? LOL". Yep that was me, I replied. That was when I was scheduled to work the grueling 2am-6am shift during the school year at the station. He was impressed. We ended talking about 6/8 time in music and how it's hard to catch that particular beat. Convo cut short due to his scheduled recording time and then I got back to work on my Physics homework. I'm soooooo glad I got through that.

The next time I saw him was for a local charity event for a private school here in Tallahassee. Which is owned and directed by a FAMU professor and educates kids ranging from pre-k to 8th grade. These kids are so intelligent it's not even funny. They could have done my College Physics homework for me with ease. "Was that you who stated a few Saturdays ago that we can't depend on Obama to change everything solely and if we want to see results we have to change ourselves and work together to change our community?" Yep that was me. He was impressed again. "I here you sister." I blushed. He pat me on the back and I headed towards my turntables to start playing music for the reception.

There was an event that happened while I was on the road doing another hip-hop event. It really due to my frustration about some events that happened prior to me leaving i.e. losing my job, argument with a friend, little brother enlisting in the Army (please pray for his safety), having lack of cash keep me from doing what I really want to do, the transition from college to the real (f***ed up) world, figuring out what womanhood is all about, and some other issues that I kept inside to handle bitness. I was in a bad mood and I guess I infected some others. Emotions were every where because people were somewhat going through what I was going through. On the way back to Tallahassee I broke down, emotionally. It was just too much to keep inside and had to let it out on the side of the highway. Luckily I had a fellow star gazer in the car to pat me up so we get back (saw a shooting star on the way back for conformation that things are going to get better). Something told me that I needed an elder on the show that day (it was 6am when we got back). So I called Baba____ up to get me Baba____ number. I must say that I am blessed to have as many community figures that reach back to the youth.

I called and ask for him to be on the show with me and the crew and he stated that he was going to be busy for he was getting ready for Kehinde's album release party that same night. The same party I was to dj in 8 hours. Baba stated that he would come through anyway and man did he make my day. He stated that he used to work at the same station in 1989 when my show was first started. I was amazed. I never knew. He had awesome stories about working for CBS and editing audio interviews for Super Bowl 10 (which the Steelers played in. That was ironic because he was on my show at the station he worked at years ago and the Steelers once again were playing in the Superbowl 43. Circles.) We talked about about alot of things from George Benson and Dione Warwick to him Being a pilot and my (not so secret anymore) aspirations to become the same. He really did change my whole mind set for the better. BABA THANK YOU!!!!!

That next week he told me he was going to be showing a documentary on Asaata Shakur and I tried my best to make it but had other engagements within the hip-hop crew. I went to the local community center hoping I could still catch him. Luckily, he was packing up, so I gave him a hand in wrapping up extension cords and gathering his things. "Do you know what your doing?" Asking about the cords. I replied "Come on now, I am DJ Baba. Cords wherther extensions, XLR, RCA, 1/4 in, Speakon, I got this." LOL. I proceeded to wrap the cords correctly and he knoded in approval. We got on a conversation about Bob Marley's Mother and how he used to play in a Reggae band to give him the opportunity to meet her. Powerful story in itself. He writting a memoir about his life so I'm going to leave that story there. We ended up getting tea cause I felt he could use my company just as much as I could use his. So we trucked over to our favorite spot and talked about...guess? Music. Turns out he was one of the founding members of a band that I used to practice with a couple years ago. Ital Stew. Another great Reggae Band defunct due to imature mentalities and bad business decisions. He schooled me on that too stating that you CANT SAVE EVERYBODY.

Showing Face Pt.1

February has been an interesting month and it has only been one week! For those that don't know this is Black History Month (though Black History Should Be every month! We built these cities on Blood Sweat and Tears not Rock 'n Roll). So I was at the post office Monday sending out some more graduation thank you cards and to get a money order for rent. Don't use checks anymore Wachovia has been f*ckin' up my account. Anyway, I'm in line and an older man in a Cowboy hat brisks by and states "Hey You", as if he knew me or like I was a long lost friend. I reply "Hey...how's it going?" He had a cheery response that he was doing fantastically well. Didn't quite feel his fire so I told him I was "hanging". "Just hanging? You look fine to me. You breathing aren't you?" He had a point. I was breathing, with no problem.

I saw that he had words written on his hat that said USA Cherokee. I asked how did he know exactly if he was Cherokee or not beacause he had a beautiful dark complexion and I was led to believe that Native Americans were lighter in color, Cherokee in particular. "Well, I just talked to my elders and they told me stories about how there was a slave revolt on a plantation in Georgia and how they eventually linked up with a near by Native Indian Tribe." Our conversation was cut short for it was my turn to get what I came for. I told him I would wait outside for him. I usually don't do this for strangers it felt like I knew him too.

We met back up and he handed me a post office guide of how to re-use boxes for shipping that had his name and information on there as well. Big grin included. I told him how I was told that my mothers side of the family has a Cherokee bloodline and how she took us to Cherokee Re-anactment spot in NC, but due to not having records and people passing, no one really knows. But my new friend begs to differ. "Yeah can see you having a Cherokee bloodline. It's in the cheeks when you smile". I blushed. Check this site out and see if this will help. He was talking about Cherokee Nation. "Hold right there. I want you to sign my Art Truck. I will be right back.

So he left and a few minutes later he brought over his pick up and boy did it have some art on it. The truck was hand painted by this fella that had pictures of land scapes animals and guess what? A Cherokee Indian. There were also many signatures of people he met along his journey. "Here you go, take this marker and sign your name and date on the truck. So, I'm looking for a place to sign. No luck. It was pretty much full. Until I looked at the Cherokee Indian picture. There was enough room for me to sign right in front of it. Mind you he had some buddies in the back. Four Chow Chows in the bed of the truck as well as a stuffed Tiger on the top of the cab. My closest friends know that I have an obession with tigers. I thought that was interesting. Of all animals you have show Chow Chows and a tiger on the top.

"You done met somebody famous and you don't even know it yet". He was right. I didn't. "I'm one of the first Blacks to run for President of The United States." Had a news paper clipping and everything. Official Paper work to boot. All I could say..."Wow!"

I shook his hand and he drove off. Him and his dogs. I noticed on the back of the truck he had a sign that said "Fame You". I thought that was interesting too. This blog is getting kind long so I'm going to write it in parts. So stay tuned for my next encounter with a local elder.

Just know that God is showing his/herself to me and others that I care about.

WOW! We gotta be related. I don't know what it is about locks and guitars but I'm all about it. Well... that's me. Picked up the guitar after I found out that I couldn't bring my drum set with me to college.

So I'm checking my email and I see a message from a promotions company that came outta nowhere, who promote artists I love and will love. Giantstep Recommends ASA was the title. And I'm happy to say she is my sister in music she just doesn't know it yet.

You need, you must, you have to check her music out! Whoa! I'll be real. I don't talk much about artist that aren't worth my time talking about but I stopped what I was doing just to write this blog.

2009 has brought some drastic changes already and it hasn't been a full month yet. Obama is in office and some are ecstatic while others are showing their true colors.

Man 'o man does time fly. Where does it all go? It seems like last week I was watching Yogi Bear and Boo Boo get busted at Jellystone park. A few days ago it seems like I was arguing with classmates about who was the best Ninja Turtle (Michelangelo still rules! Dammit!). It feels like it was just yesterday that my neighbors and I were pretending to be Power Rangers and fighting the evil putties. I still think they look gross by the way and I was always the Black Ranger for some odd reason.

While at work, I practiced my daily day dream meditation. I so happened to look off and saw a group of small children playing in the dirty fountain by the IMax theater. I thought to myself, "Where is your teacher?", then I thought "Wow, it wasn't too long ago that I was being reprimanded for trying to push another class mate into a fountain on a field trip at the local museum. He started it. Scouts swear. For real though, you remember wanting to go chase the ice cream truck down before dinner or wanting to play water gun fight when it was chilly outside? No? Maybe it was something else, the hell if I know what you wanted to do but, you will remember saying this..."I can't wait to be a grown up so I can do what I want!!! Hmph!

Well Congratulations! That has come chum! But guess what? You still can't do what you want with out being reprimanded or limited in some type of way. Well, not unless you are Good 'Ol Dubyah (still counting down toward history!) Anyway, having small pockets (tremendously small) and a job market that is just ass bad as Hannah Montana Pop's haircut, is not anything a recent graduate is looking forward to experience. So until I network my ass off and become your favorite artist's tour dj, I'll be here, there, every where, striving to make my mark. Before I go I wanted to share a video very dear to my heart. Holdin' Steady In The Year of The OX

Went into hiding from the boards for a second but workin' harder and smarter by the day. 2009 has been treating me royally since the clock struck 12. No I didn't win the lottery but, I have been making some moves and holding steady since the 1st.

Here's a quick recap:
*Trip to Miami for NYE party at Hotel Delano with my dude DJ Colombian Kid. Janelle Monáe 'effen ripped it (like always). Brendan O'Hara & The Big Bounce was a pleasure to listen to as well. One time for Questlove for making a guest appearance poolside to support Janelle. Wanted to holla at dude but know that he's not the "Hey I'm here! Bug me for an autograph and a picture" type dude. So I nodded, smiled and let him pass through to get toward where Janelle and her band was hangin' out at. Til' next time Questo.

* Hittin' up the Beach(s) (well deserved vacation for graduation and before getting back on the grind)

*Making an appearance and spinning on DJ Colombian Kid's internet tv show "The Womb TV" @ the SONY Building. Shout out to Redlyte for holding it down and bringing new Dance Hall music.

Here are some wise words for the new year from chinavoc.com

We will feel the yoke of responsibility coming down on us this year. No success can be achieved without conscientious efforts. The trials and btribulations the Ox year brings will be mainly on the home front. It is a good time to settle domestic affairs and put your house in order.

Way-out fashions, abstract art forms and newfangled notions will be given an impressive stare by the phlegmatic Ox, while politics and diplomacy will simply be treated with indifference. Better stick to routine and support conservative policies. Frivolities are out!

This year will no doubt bear fruit, but the motto is: "No work, no pay!" Time waits for no man; if we are too lazy to sow then we can blame no one if we have nothing to reap. We will find a great many things requiring our attention, and the list of what needs to be done will seem endless. The Spartan influence of the Ox will be a constantly cracking whip over our heads. Better to apply oneself diligently than waste time arguing with the authorities. They will prevail, as the year of the Ox favors discipline.

Most conflicts this year will arise more from a lack of communication and refusal to give in on small technicalities than anything else. But hang on and be patient. Everything will be sorted out and we will be rewarded for our efforts--so long as we remember to do things the conventional way. This is no time for tricky shortcuts.

For the rebels, it may be worthwhile to point out that although the stoical Ox is soft-spoken, he carries a big stick, and this is his year.

R.I.P. Eartha Kitt

Y'all remember growing up watching old school Batman right? Well, reruns on Nick at Night in my case. Who was your favorite villain? That doesn't matter. Mine was definitely the mischievous, vivacious, and perrrrrfect Catwoman, played by one of my favorite actress and entertainer Eartha Kitt. I used to run around the house rolling my tongue on words that you can't roll your tongue on. While my little brother runs behind me saying POW! WHAM!

She passed away recently (81 years) and I want to pay my respects to one of the women that broke barriers during a time where black women only received roles playing the mammy or other insignificant roles on television and movies. Thanks for opening the door.

It's funny how things link up. Turns out that she grew up in North, SC. A very very (pass trough in a blink of an eye) small town that we ride through to see Granny not too far from there. Here's a link.

Pick up lines

If I were to use a pick up line, I find out it would be less like "Hey sweet thang, wanna take a ride?" and more like "Hey! You look like you have some sense, want to start a business?" Unfortunately, I also find out that most guys would rather have a trophy on their arm than a potential asset as a business partner/more than business partner.

I've been told that I am very intimidating...well, for those that don't have their shit together maybe. But DAMN! Nobody has their shit together? (Sigh) From emotional boredom, I've developed a new hobby called "People watching". Not in a peeping tom sense but more of a collection of pattern of behavior. From my observation, I'm not very pleased and find that some (a lot) of men my age and older (really? yes.) are mentally debilitated i.e. the annoying dude at my job. Sometimes I want to strangle this cat but choose not to for fear of being deemed "the angry black girl".

I am fairly young, ok very young, and have a set goal of where I want to be in life come the next 6 months. I set goals. I met them. Then repeat. Maybe I've just developed into an A+ plus personality that helps me get things done. Though true, I promise I'm the coolest A+ type you'll ever met. Promise.

My new pick up line:
Since the economy is totally ruined many people aren't buying into the stock market anymore. Well, I have good news for you sweet cakes. How about an individual to invest in? I cooled down since the last time I wrote in realization that the holidays were coming up. I figured no one wants to be around a grinch lol. Since clearing up my bad mood and spirit, some good things happened. I FINALLY got to dj at the better half of my job. (They don't pay me enough for promo, so no link here) but, I will say it is one of the nicer lounges here in Tallahassee. Very swanky.

People really enjoyed themselves, so much that they didn't want to leave (nice). I realized that I am the people's dj. When other WHACK dj's refuse to take request, I gladly take them. Most people know what they want to hear when they are at a party, so I listen. Thus, having a dope ass time. However, there were a few sabotage attempts. I take suggestions but, I'm no dummy. Let me do my job. I know how to progress. I know my crowds and the music they like. Let me do me please. And yes All of the equipment used is owned by me, Dj Acrojam. Making my way to the pros because little league dosen't look good on me. Lol.

So, I graduated. Yay. I wanted the whole weekend to be a celebration of my HUGE accomplishment. However, things didn't turn out that way(maybe that was asking too much). I love my family dearly but, recognize I can only be around them for a few days before they drive me totally insane. I also overstand that being in a crew or a group is totally overrated. Especially, when I am very efficient at doing for self. (Me thinking: Do I really need you? More than likely, no. Do you need me?...Probably so. I know my WORTH. Don't do me.)

Also a few individuals showed out and just a reminder to ALL... I AM ALLERGIC TO BULLSHIT AND BITCHASSNESS!!!!! If you are ready to roll, than dammit let's roll. If not, peep the motto. I shouldn't have to repeat it at this point.

Lastly, please I advise you not to test me because I'll pass with flying colors, trust.

Long Journey

Well, I finished all exams and this road is coming to an end. I'm in much need of a break and the urge to behave badly (very) is creeping up. Much has been learned here at "The Hill" and I will take the lessons with me on my path to success. Physics was a pain in the ass but, now that I there aren't any assignments due anymore, I may actually want to look back to see if I can still figure out how long it will take a 93hz radio transmission to reach my house. Gotta keep the mind in tip-top shape too!

Though this may be a surprise to you this is certainly not one for me (Actually it was expected or this would have been evidence of a glitch in the Academy Board!).
Ms. Janelle Monáe was nominated for best Urban/ Alternative Performance this week. If you have ever seen her perform live you know that she is well deserving of this nomination (hopefully an award) and is in position to win many more in the future. If you don't know about this young lady please be obliged to do some research on her. I promise you won't be disappointed. I've been following Ms. Monáe's progress for sometime now and want to give my sincere congratulations to the Wondaland Arts Society for putting together an impressive product and inspiring others to reach outside the box. I have been focusing on trying to chase down professors, FAMU faculty, getting papers signed, studying (barely), to ensure that I walk across the Tallahassee Leon County Civic Center stage December 12, 2008 @ 6pm! Not to mention running a hip-hop show and being the underground hip-hop mayor round these parts and having to show your face to let folks know you care about what they're doing.

Pirates vs. Ninjas

So I'm suppose to be editing an interview to help out "my brother from another mother" Amond Jackson but ended up getting pleasantly sidetracked.

I usually do this ritual where I chill out to some nice vibes before getting to work. A friend of mine and awesome artist, (photographer, hair and make-up artist, superwoman) Aeleise J, put me on to a singer that some know (and many that do not know unfortunately)as Esthero. I did my research and I come to see that she has a impressive track record including many heavy names that I truly enjoy listening to (i.e. Goodie Mob, DJ Krush, Andre 3000!?). I heard her music and I was intrigued to find out more about the self proclaimed "Pirate". It's one thing to hear a song, it's another to see it performed live.

After viewing a few fan/supporter made videos on youtube I came across this one that had me with my eyebrows raised and my ear canals WIDE open.

Pirates like Esthero are cool but Ninja's like me...lol. I'll peep y'all on that later lol.

So this is my first blog on this particular site (I have quite a catalog on myspace). Another DJ buddy of mine, DJ Mannes, told me about this site and how it will open other opportunities for me as a DJ.

Tonight I stopped through to the station (like I'm not already here every night) to help out with "The Voice Box" recording. This specialty show features local poets every third Wednesday at 9:00pm. Tonight we had Chris Braun and DJ Mannes gilrfriend, Cecilia Llompart. Cecilia actually has a poem published in Tri Quarterly magazine put out by Northwestern University. It's funny how things connect beacause I asked her how she pronounces her last name and it has the y sound like my first name (acrojam backwards). She then stated that her ancestors are from the island that I was named after. Wow!
